Dear Seaman, Sam,

I'm requesting that the documents be emailed to me, so there would be no charges.
*Access to electronic records and non-printed materials shall be provided free of charge, but the public agency may charge for the actual costs of any needed supplies such as computer discs.
*Records provided via e-mail and facsimile are free of charge. Custodians must charge the actual cost to provide access to all other electronic materials such as CD-ROMs, DVDs, videotapes, audiotapes, etc.

Yours sincerely,

ASK NJ Media Co.

Seaman, Sam, Toms River Police Department

Those documents are hard copy. We have to make copies and then redact prior to scanning them into electronic documents. So there is a charge of $.05 per page. The total cost is $2.00 for the 40 copies.

Dear Seaman, Sam,

I have seen UFRs from Toms River before and know that they are filled out electronically, not by hand, which means they exist in electronic format already. I don’t see why they cannot be redacted electronically. Moreover, I don’t think that most of them would require redaction, but for those pertaining to juveniles or describing a mental illness. My attorney encourages you to release them without a charge.

Yours sincerely,

ASK NJ Media Co.

Good Day,

Here are the Use of Force reports for October.  As I stated before these
reports come in as hard copy.  Some of the are completed on a computer,
but then they are printed and submitted.  The records department processes
them and then the originals go to Professional Standards for review.  They
are then filed upstairs in Admin.  When I receive a request for them I
contact the Sgt. in Admin and he makes copies and gives them to me.  My
staff and I then review for redaction.  After completion we scan them to
pdf to  be sent or put on a CD for mail or pick up.  You and your attorney
are welcome to stop by here and see the 40 pieces of paper that was
produced.   Thank you.
