I heard back from the contractor.  He would like to come by between 3:30
and 4:30 tomorrow to take a look and get a better sense of what is
happening.  If that is ok let me know and I will try to pin him down more
on the timing.

Hi Brian,

At this point, support will not work.  We need them replaced.  They are
BENT and not working like they should.  The material is simply not thick
enough.

HI Brian,

Just curious, I believe in the original specs, we asked for a 3 yr
warranty on the dog kennels.  The floors on all of the kennels are simply
not reinforced/sturdy enough to bear the weight of us cleaning them and
are bending horribly, creating pools of water & urine, where they should
be slanted back towards the drains.  I think we need to address this
sooner than later and have the original company come and replace them and
the supports with a thicker material.  Please advise your thoughts.

Not your mother’s animal shelter

Some longtime animal welfare professionals can remember the days of tiny
cinderblock shelters hidden away from the community, bare concrete

leading the field are innovative, creative community centers that tackle
animal homelessness at the roots and boast vastly improved live-release
rates. How did we get here—and where will we go next? We explore this in

Thanks, Krbriggs❤️! I’ve found my dog. It was because my neighbor did
construction, and it broke the bottom of the fence between both of our
backyards... The tiny dog went through the opening and dropped into a big
hole. Thank God she didn’t get injured!

Reasons to help

¡Reasons to Help!

I'm Elena Tova, director of an animal sanctuary: El Hogar Animal Sanctuary, in
Spain.
Something very unfair is happening to us in the place where we live and the
animals need your help, but in the face of adversity and due to our commitment
to animals, El Hogar has turned a negative event into something very positive
for everyone.

I would really appreciate it if you could spend some minutes of your time
reading this letter, which is actually the presentation of a unique and
innovative project for both animals and humans who have been victims of
mistreatment. We believe that the organization you represent would like to know
more about this and eventually take part in this project.

Many thanks for your trust and collaboration.

[1][IMG]
Today, we’d like to share what we’ve been working on all this time

PROJECT EL HOGAR SUMMARY

THE PAST
El Hogar Animal Sanctuary was founded by Elena Tova in Madrid, Spain, in 2007,
as an animal shelter; aiming to rescue and find a home for hundreds of cats and
dogs. But then Benito, a pig who was found wounded outside a nearby farm, roused
a new feeling in Elena, a reflection on the necessity of broadening our empathy
circle beyond “pet” animals. We rescued Benito and thus the first multi-species
sanctuary in Spain was born. He was the first of hundreds of rescues and
recoveries of exploitation animals (cows, chickens, horses, donkeys, deer,
sheep, wild boars, etc.) in the following years, many of them old, sick and
wounded, both physically and emotionally. This would be, as always, the key
marker of identity of El Hogar.
But the land in which the sanctuary was located in Madrid was not big or
adequate enough for our new needs: if we wanted to keep rescuing animals of
different species, we needed to move. Elena started a search for new lands as
well as funding for them. After two years of searching, Elena found in a Swiss
foundation an opportunity to fund the land we needed. This foundation promised
to hand the land over to El Hogar permanently. This is when we changed our name
to El Hogar ProVegan, in gratitude for their cooperation.

THE PRESENT
In 2014, El Hogar moved to this new land, in Tarragona, making a huge effort in
the relocation of more than 200 animals and the preparation of the land for them
(years of building). However, Elena was coerced to do something she considered
ethically wrong and far away from the values of the Association. As she refused
to give in to this coercion, the foundation decided to terminate the agreement.
Despite the setback caused by the withdrawal of the foundation's support, Elena
and her team of volunteers know that they cannot maintain an alliance with an
organization that doesn’t share our values of respect towards all animals,
particularly humans. From the beginning, El Hogar has always promoted respect
and empathy not only towards non-human animals but towards humans as well.

[2][IMG]
This it the new El Hogar Animal Sanctuary

THE FUTURE
El Hogar is changing its name to El Hogar Animal Sanctuary and facing an
enormous challenge: to find a new and permanent location. We need a plot of land
that cannot be taken away from us. This makes the purchasing of a plot of land
necessary. Thankfully, giving up is not in El Hogar's nature. It is our priority
to ensure the rescued animals' safety. They are our family, and the family of
all the activists whose support we have come to rely on over the years and who
make the smooth running of the sanctuary possible.

Elena has started to form a new plan. The plan will be a milestone in the fight
for animal liberation. The idea is to embrace various types of victims and bring
together a number of causes. The new Hogar Animal Sanctuary project is made up
of 5 different, complementary sections coming together to form a sustainable and
self-managed sanctuary. The aim is for the animals' safety not to have to rely
on external help or charity ever again:

• Social help. The Hogar Animal Sanctuary will welcome human victims in this
new stage, too; the socially excluded and homeless, those with disabilities,
the abused and so on. There will be opportunities for social
and professional rehabilitation, with the chance to train and learn new
trades in the context of the sections explained below. There will be the
chance to live in an atmosphere of empathy and peace, and to heal. This
is not about using animals for therapy, but rather a mutual arrangement. It
would involve identifying with victims of other species and understanding
that violence is always the same: the mistreatment of the weak and
vulnerable.
• Veterinarians. Sanctuaries face a great problem: the absence of knowledge on
how to look after so-called farm animals; pigs, cows, sheep and many other
species who are only conceived of as resources rather than sentient beings.
That being the case, veterinarian science for these animals focuses on how
to maximise their profitability and make them more efficient instead of
truly curing them. This means use of antibiotics and hormones, which
incidentally end up in the food chain. So in the case of ailments that
require specific and specialised treatment, these animals, (these
individuals) are no longer profitable... It makes more sense for the
industry to get rid of them than to invest in research for cures. In this
light, the veterinarian section of the Hogar Animal Sanctuary takes on
special significance. We urgently need empathetic vets, keen to learn and
pass on knowledge to others. The idea is to put together a corpus of
theories, specific studies for the cure of various pathologies and ailments
which today are simply not looked into. In our experience, every time an
animal in our care suffers from an unknown illness, we embark on a quest for
second opinions, and often solutions are found too late. So, we want to open
a veterinarian practice where professionals can specialise in these
species. In this way, we'll be able to treat our inhabitants on site,
without the trauma of transporting them to strange new locations among
strange new people.
• Catering. Once settled in our new home, we will need sources of income to
ensure sustainability and minimise dependence on donations and charity. One
such source could be a small vegan hotel. This would be an alternative,
ethical and sustainable tourism option, offering contact with animals and
day to day life at the sanctuary; a piece of vegan utopia where to
disconnect for a few days, without having to witness animal abuse and
exploitation, as is often the case in rural retreats. There will also be
courses on offer on conscientious food and vegan cooking. The name of the
hotel will be “La Cabaña”.
• Horticulture. In our new home, we plan to set up a garden, based on the idea
of permaculture: perfectly efficient and respectful to the environment,
without the use of any form of animal exploitation. The idea is to feed all
the animals (humans and non-humans) from the garden at El Hogar in a natural
and sustainable way, but also to spread the message for a more
conscientious, healthy, ecological and sustainable way of feeding
our- selves with the creation of a new brand of ecofoods (El Huerto), that
will supply to local restaurants and shops. This idea will also provide a
chance for training in horticulture, aromatic plants, gardening and so on,
for the human victims taken in by El Hogar.
• Events. Hogar Animal Sanctuary have a ten year experience in organising
events in various cities, focusing on fundraising as well as raising
awareness. In this new stage, we will continue to do so, but we will also
create a space available to other groups: feminists, ecologists and other
causes that we would like to bring together so as to be more efficient in
our struggle to create a better world. It will be a space of
intersectionality, where all just causes will have the chance to debate,
create and put social projects into action.
• Education. For over 10 years, various activities have come into being with
the aim to teach values in the form of veganism, respect to the environment
and to all sentient beings. In this new stage, El Hogar will continue to
invest in such activities as a real force for social change. With more
energy and ideas than ever, we will work with experts and groups in the
field, to have a greater impact, not only on children, but also on teens and
adults. Nobody is born wise and nobody is born vegan, so we will implement
projects to improve accessibility and raise awareness of the advantages of a
vegan life.
• Construction. An animal sanctuary is in constant need of repairs, reforms
and improvements on its facilities. From the veterinarian equipment to the
fencing off of the parametre and parks and including plumbing, electricity,
heating and so on, the construction section will include specialist
professionals in ecological and sustainable construction, who will reuse the
available natural resources. Again, this will also be a training
opportunity for the human victims taken in by the sanctuary.

The project is ambitious in a good sense: it aims to once again set a precedent,
hit a new milestone in the animal rights fight, this time with the idea of
intersectionality. It's a solid, realistic plan, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
The various sections will come into being as objectives are met. The first of
those will be to buy land- the animals' permanent home. A home nobody will be
able to take away from them and where all our plans can come into fruition. Our
current funds are limited. Our Gofundme campaign has been up for six months, but
we need at least 400.000Euros to buy the lands.

For our innovative project to come true, we need your help. What for one person
or entity is a grain of sand, for us means salvation and the opportunity to hit
a new milestone in the history of animal rights in this country. It will also
ensure we can keep saving and treating thousands of animals, as well as human
victims. There has never been such a comprehensive aid project. We count on your
cooperation and your generosity to purchase those lands of peace.

REASONS TO HELP

1. To contribute and let everyone know. If you become a donor to this cause, you
will be helping us build a better world, which will be more fair, equitable and
sustainable. And we will make sure people know you have helped. We have the
capacity to create relevant stories for the media and their audience. This
project will create a lot of discussion in different areas, and everyone related
to it will benefit from the media impact, not only during the pre-launch and
launch phase but also throughout its life. Our Communication Department helps us
attract significant media attention on a regular and organised basis, in order
to achieve our goals of social awareness. In 2017 alone, we have generated a
media value of more than 7 million euros through our awareness campaigns in mass
media (press, radio and TV). To this we should add our capacity to spread our
messages through social media: more than 100,000 followers on Facebook, more
than 15,000 on Instagram and more than 7,000 on Twitter.

2. You will join a social innovation project, which will include different
causes together in a common and consistent ground, under the premise of social
justice and sustainability. Whether you are a company, a NPO or an individual,
we will take you through enhancing your image regarding these values.
